- One ounce of nuts: almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts reduce heart disease risk by 30%
- Quality dark chocolate: it's rich in fiber, iron, magnesium, copper and manganese. You need to select bars with 70-85% cocoa to reap benefits.
- Eat fatty fish twice a week: Fish like wild salmon, herring, mackerel, sablefish (black cod), anchovies and sardines are rich in omeae-3 fatty acids and reduce risk of dying from heart disease by 36%. And added bonus - omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation.
- Colorful vegetables: They contain helpful antioxidants that fight "rusting" of the arteries.
- Extra virgin olive oil: It's high in antioxidants. One study found that consuming approximately 1 liter a week reduced heart attacks, strokes and death by 30%.
