Drivers take note: I-94 bridge rehabilitation project in Waukesha Co. to begin March 7th

WAUKESHA COUNTY -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin a rehabilitation project of 14 bridges on I-94 from County P to County F, in Waukesha County.  There will be work on all I-94 at-grade bridges from Maple Ave. to County P and work on overhead bridges at County F and WIS 164/County J.

There will be multiple work zones throughout the approximately 12-mile project, scheduled to begin March 7.

This project will perform maintenance work on the structures to include repairing the deck surfaces, painting steel girders, replacing approach slabs, replacing bearings, resealing slopes and placing concrete overlays.

Prior to the work on the at-grade structures between Maple Ave. and County P, shoulders will be widened by crews to accommodate traffic during construction. Throughout the project, shoulder and median widening will be done at most bridges to accommodate traffic needs. Within the project limits, two lanes of freeway traffic in each direction will be maintained during peak times.

While limited traffic impacts are anticipated for most of the project, beginning as early as April, there will be long-term lane closures at the WIS 164/County J interchange. There will be lane closures on the WIS 164/County J Bridge over I-94 and on the exit ramps from the freeway. These closures are necessary to facilitate a concrete overlay on the bridges and are anticipated to cause congestion.

The contractor, Zenith Tech Inc., is planning on completing the $8.3 million project in fall of 2016. The schedule of work is weather dependent and subject to change.
