Theft of ammunition from home in Wauwatosa leads to discovery of possible plot to kill officers

WAUWATOSA -- FOX6 News has learned a potential plot to kill police officers is being investigated, and Wauwatosa police say it is linked to a 15-year-old boy.

A police affidavit obtained by FOX6 News on Wednesday, March 2nd reveals this plan was seemingly a lot more than just talk.

The 15-year-old boy is being held at the Milwaukee County juvenile detention center as the investigation continues, and police work to determine whether there were any co-conspirators.

FOX6 News is not identifying the boy because he is a juvenile.

According to the affidavit, Wauwatosa police responded to a burglary on February 15th. Police said a large amount of ammunition was taken from a home.

Ten days later, police went to a suspect's home.

The affidavit says the boy's father recovered a "large amount of ammunition from a slot cut into (the boy's) mattress." Police said it appeared to be the stolen ammunition.

Police also found the boy's white Samsung tablet, a Christmas gift.

Police said they found messages sent via Facebook, in which the boy and others were discussing the use of the stolen ammunition in a conspiracy to attack and kill police officers on or about March 11th, 2016.

Police are working with a district attorney to look into the tablet with the possibility of charges of conspiracy to commit first degree intentional homicide in the future.

FOX6 News has learned the boy has had some minor run-ins with the law in the recent past, but nothing as violent as what is now alleged.

Police say the boy confessed to stealing the ammunition. A source says a possible motive is that the boy seems to like attention from police.

He is currently in custody for allegedly spray painting a squad car with graffiti.
