Imaginations running wild: Banting Elementary School hosts "All Day Read In"

WAUKESHA -- The imaginations of little minds at Banting Elementary School were running wild on Friday as they were encouraged to get lost in a book.

"It sort of takes me out of this world and into the world of reading," said 5th grader Alex Carrillo.

"You can connect with the characters and you can feel how they're feeling," said 5th grader Sierra Langkamp.

The school held its annual All Day Read In, which is a culmination of Read Across America Week and celebrating the week of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

It all started with parents joining their kids for a green eggs and ham breakfast.

After their bellies were full, visitors stopped by the school to share their passion of reading.

"I think that one of the great things about today is having so many people coming in from so many different careers and sharing the importance of reading whether they're a football player how important is it, whether they're a firefighter," said Banting Elementary School Principal Mary Garcia-Velez.

Waukesha Fire Division Chief Dennis Graff was thrilled to be a part of the event and read a rather fitting book.

"Today we were fortunate enough to read a book about emergencies and highlight appropriate times when we would call 911," said Graff.

To keep the kids comfortable while enjoying their day of reading they got to wear their pajamas to school.

"It allows our kids and our teachers to curl up with a good book all day long," said Garcia-Velez.
