Dozens of emergency crews respond to large blaze on Milwaukee's south side

MILWAUKEE -- Dozens of emergency crews respond to a large fire near S. Barclay and E. Orchard Streets in Milwaukee Friday evening, March 11th.

The call to officials came in shortly after 7:00 p.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to heavy flames and collapsed roof. They worked to confine the fire so it would not spread to surrounding buildings.

Officials say a collapsed roof is a dangerous situation, so crews will be working slowly.

"We're going to be working in there, because of the size of the building and the amount of collapse that we had in there, we need to work slowly and diligently through that building to make sure we don't get our personnel injured at this point. So it's going to be a little bit of time. We are going to be on scene for a couple more hours yet tonight, just working on hotspots, mainly because we're going to have to take a slow, cautious approach," said Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lintonen.
