ARVADA, Colorado — A Colorado store clerk’s quick thinking helped to save the life of a baby girl when her mother suddenly collapsed.

“I’m a mother. I’m a grandmother. It’s motherly instinct to worry about children,” Rebecca Montano told KDVR.

Montano was working behind the counter at a convenience store when the young mother walked in. The mother grabbed a soft drink and proceeded to check out.

“Then all of a sudden she had a dazed look on her face and I knew something was wrong,” Montano said.

Montano decided to reach for the baby. All the while, she was trying to talk to the mother, but the woman wouldn’t say anything. She just kept swaying back and forth.

“I came over to help the girl and she was having a seizure,” Montano said.

Montano called 911 and paramedics arrived. Montano handed the baby to a customer as she gave assistance to the girl’s mother. The woman who had the seizure is fine and so is her baby, all thanks to Montano.

People keep calling Montano a hero, but she said she’s just an average person who did a good thing.

“It’s people like you who make the world right,” a customer told her.

It is very disrespectful of this mother’s privacy to show video of her having a seizure. I’m so glad the cashier helped this mom & her child, but to show this kind of video is so insensitive. I can’t imagine how embarrassed she must be to have a video of herself having a seizure all over the news and the internet. Run the story, show video of the cashier, but get rid of the footage of the medical incident.
