$1M winning lottery ticket sold in Eau Claire, Wisconsin goes unclaimed

APPLETON — Someone with a winning lottery ticket sold in Wisconsin has missed out on a jackpot.

A Powerball ticket sold in Eau Claire worth $1 million wasn't redeemed by the March deadline. So instead of funding the winner's dreams of retirement or a vacation, the money will go toward property tax relief.

The ticket was bought last September. The deadline for redeeming it was March 21. By law, winners of lotto games in Wisconsin have 180 days to claim their prizes.

But a spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue tells Post-Crescent Media (http://post.cr/1osRFoB ) the winner did not come forward.

She didn't know why, but says it's rare not to redeem a $1 million winner.

The odds of winning a $1 million Powerball prize are 1 in 5,153,633.
