Two taken into custody after crashing stolen vehicle near Van Buren & Wells

MILWAUKEE -- Officers from District One of the Milwaukee Police Department arrested two teenagers after they crashed a car they are accused of stealing in downtown Milwaukee.

The officers responded to the area of E. Pleasant and N. Jackson  around 12:30 a.m. on April 5th and met with the victim, a 22-year-old Milwaukee woman. The victim said she was approached by two suspects, one of whom had a gun, and they demanded her car, a 2002 Mazda 626.

The suspects took the victim’s car and fled from the scene.

A short time later, District One officers on patrol located the Mazda 626 near N. Van Buren Avenue and E. Ogden Avenue and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The driver of the Mazda ignored the commands and officers began a pursuit.

At the intersection of N. Van Buren Street and E. Wells Street, the Mazda hit a citizen’s Buick Rendezvous and then crashed into a building.

The suspects, two 16-year-old males, inside the stolen Mazda fled on foot but were taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Buick Rendezvous, a 47-year-old Milwaukee woman, was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

One of the suspects has a previous arrest for armed robbery.

The other suspect has previous arrests for armed robbery and driving/operating a car without owner’s consent.
