"Creating a more warm and welcoming space:" Kohl's associates volunteer at Penfield Children's Center

MILWAUKEE -- On Thursday, April 14th, a group of volunteers from around the country spent the day in Milwaukee doing a little spring cleaning.

On the outside and inside, Penfield Children's Center in Milwaukee got a face-lift -- thanks to Kohl's.

"We have a 130 associates from across the country here," said Colleen Wegner, VP of facilities and new store formats.

The associates were perfect for the job because they work for the company's facilities team.

"Doing our handyman work in our Kohl's stores, making our stores look brand right," said Wegner.

Penfield serves families with children who have developmental delays or disorders.

The volunteers painted, organized and even turned a storage closet into a room for nursing moms.

"It is creating a more warm and welcoming space for our families and taking that footprint we have right now and making it as accessible as possible," said Jason Parry with Penfield Children's Center.

What these Kohl's associates were able to accomplish in a day might have taken Penfield a year on their own.

"By the time this is all done, it is going to look entirely different," said Parry.

Some volunteered at Penfield for the third year in a row, and they said they plan to do so for many years to come.

The Kohl's associates also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. Some of them cooked meals for the families whose children are being treated at Children's Hospital.
