Police recommend charges against two students after K-9 search at Port Washington H.S.

PORT WASHINGTON -- Port Washington police have recommended charges against two Port Washington High School students following an unannounced K-9 search at the school on Thursday, April 14th.

K-9 units from the Milwaukee County House of Correction, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, St. Francis Police Department, Brown Deer Police Department, Mequon Police Department and Glendale Police Department did not reveal any drugs in students' lockers or school buildings.

However, there was a small amount of marijuana located in two vehicles, along with a small amount of alcohol found in one of those vehicles, police said.

The vehicles were located in a school parking lot, and a parking lot adjacent to the school.

Police requested that the Ozaukee County District Attorney's Office charge two students. Police are recommending the juvenile student be charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and underage possession of alcohol.

Police have recommended a possession of marijuana charge for the adult student.

The school has also imposed sanctions against these students.

Officers used K-9s to search approximately 1,000 student lockers and approximately 350 vehicles in a relatively short period of time, with the goal of not disrupting the school day for teachers or students.

Police said this unannounced search provided the school's staff members an opportunity to test the school’s lockdown procedures employed in the event an intruder or active threat is present.
