Grand Avenue will get large new office spaces in renovation, owners seek grocery store

MILWAUKEE -- A substantial portion of The Shops of Grand Avenue will be converted into office space, and efforts are underway to attract a grocer to the building.

The downtown Milwaukee mall currently has about 300,000 square feet of space, and between 40,000 and 120,000 could be renovated into office space, said Tony Janowiec, principal of the Aggero Group. Aggero Group, Milwaukee, in partnership with Minneapolis developer Hempel Cos., bought the Grand Avenue in December, and have spent the past few months meeting with stakeholders and devising a plan to revive the mall.

Grand Avenue is a key property in Milwaukee’s Westown neighborhood, which is in the midst of a budding revival thanks to an influx of residents moving into apartments that are being developed around the mall.
