Bathed in purple: How cities across the U.S. are honoring Prince

Cities across America are mourning the loss of Hall of Fame recording artist Prince, who died Thursday at the age of 57.

An outpouring of grief for the beloved pop star continued into the night after news of his death spread in the early afternoon. Prince was found unresponsive inside his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, and was later pronounced dead.

The iconic, eclectic artist, whose singular style united people of different tastes and different walks of life, will be missed terribly. In honor of what may be his best-known album, "Purple Rain," here is a sampling of how cities across the United States are celebrating his legacy:
