Records: DOJ investigator resigned amid harassment probe

MADISON — A state Justice Department supervisor resigned last fall amid an internal investigation into allegations he sexually harassed female co-workers.

Documents DOJ officials released Friday in response to an Associated Press open records request show John Knappmiller, a consumer protection supervisor, resigned in September upon his attorney's advice. A letter that same month shows DOJ officials were looking into allegations he sexually harassed a number of female DOJ workers.

In one instance he showed up uninvited at a female subordinate's home and positioned his "groin area" near her face while sitting in her office. Other allegations included following women in his car and positioning his "groin area" near women employees' faces.

Attorney Peter Fox, whose firm represented Knappmiller, said the lawyer who represented Knappmiller wasn't available for comment.
