Paralyzed dog left on shelter doorstep with heartbreaking note

FLORIDA - "Please help my Genie."

Those were the first words of a note found next to a paralyzed puppy that someone dropped off at a Florida animal shelter. Workers say the rest of the note left them shattered.

According to WFLA, Genie was left by her owner, who could no longer take care of her in the condition she was in.

The note left with Genie was just heartbreaking.

It read: "Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you."

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay immediately started looking for a way to help Genie with the medical care she needed.

The shelter shared that on Friday they raised more than $20,000 for their animals, including Genie.
