Police: 22-year-old man shot, wounded near 48th and Center in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that happened near 48th and Center on Thursday evening, Dec. 5. Police responded to the scene around 8:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, police located a 22-year-old man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicates there was an altercation with the victim and the suspect’s moments before shots were fired.

As officers were looking for evidence related to the shooting, they came across a garage fire near 48th and Center.

The officers immediately called for the Milwaukee Fire Department and began to assist occupants in evacuating from the residence and neighboring residences.

The evacuation had to occur due to the garage becoming fully engulfed -- which was in close proximity to other homes.

MFD responded and contained the fire.

Investigation at this time indicates the fire was electrical and non-criminal in nature.

There is no investigative connection between the shooting and the fire.
