Man killed in officer-involved shooting near 76th & Mill had criminal ties to Washington Co.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- The robbery suspect that was shot and killed by Milwaukee police near 76th and Mill Thursday, May 5th had criminal ties in Washington County, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

On May 5th, 38-year-old Burt Johnson robbed an O'Reilly Auto Parts store wearing a mask, armed with a gun. He then shot a Milwaukee police officer in the chest, whose life was saved by his ballistic vest. Officers then fired back -- killing Johnson.

Washington County officials say back on November 14th, 2006, the sheriff's office responded for a report of a suspicious person on Cedarview Drive in the Town of Addison.

Authorities located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence nearby, and a neighborhood canvas revealed two homes were recently burglarized.

A short time later, officials say a subject located on foot, later identified as Johnson, was taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, he told officers that he did not commit any burglaries before deputies even told him why he was in custody.

Johnson was booked into the Washington County Jail on September 29th, 2006.
