Children's Hospital of WI named a Level One Children's Surgery Center: "A tremendous honor"

MILWAUKEE -- Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is now considered a "Level One Children's Surgery Center."

"I think this is fantastic. I`m very proud of it and I think Wisconsin should be very proud of it," Marc Gorelick, Children's Hospital COO and executive vice president of Children's Health Systems said.

The hospital, located near 92nd and Watertown Plank Road was just verified as a Level One Children's Surgery Center.

"It`s a tremendous honor. A Level One reflects the breath and depth of the programs that we provide. Essentially, we can do pretty much anything surgical is what it says," Gorelick said.

In 2015, more than 18,960 surgical procedures were completed by Children's Hospital. Those surgeries ranged from nearly 700 heart surgeries to more than 2,000 tonsillectomies.

"When you think of the size of the market we are in and the kind of resources it takes to provide this care and the experience that you need to be able to do that, many hospitals in much bigger markets haven`t been able to muster that -- so I think it`s something that we`re very proud of and I think the state of Wisconsin should be proud," Gorelick said.

Gorelick said the community's support for the hospital is what made this possible.
