MILWAUKEE -- A group of kids on Sunday, May 15th made a gruesome discovery at Meaux Park in Milwaukee -- a body in the water.

The group of kids came to the park, located near N. Green Bay Road and W. Villard Avenue Sunday to play basketball. A couple of them wandered away from the courts to the water, and came across the body.

"I just seen something floating. It was stuck on sticks or something. It`s shocking to know that we come up here to play basketball at a family park and to find a dead body? Like, wow. This is where kids come to play," Jajuan Anwatts said.

The boys said the body looked like it had been there awhile. Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said it appeared to be "in an advanced stage of decomposition."

"We went down there -- went to go look at it and I was like, I see blood on the shirt, so I`m like, yeah -- that`s probably a dead body," Anwatts said.

The boys called police, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and their parents.

"It ain't nothing that I usually see," Keon Smith said.

"I`m worried that my 13-year-old is gonna have nightmares because he`s very sensitive," Tawanna Gant said.

A "Dive Rescue Team" was called in, as was the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

The boys were interviewed by investigators.

"I give my condolences to whoever it is. I mean, it`s messed up the kids can't come to the park to just play without finding something," Gant said.

Sheriff's officials are calling this an active investigation.
