Search underway for sex offender accused of assaulting 10-year-old girl: "Please -- turn yourself in

MILWAUKEE -- Police are looking for a Milwaukee man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. He is a registered sex offender -- and his family is asking that he do the right thing, and turn himself in.

"The police have been swarming around, looking constantly," Charlene Szymakowski said.

The search has been ongoing for the past week near 22nd and Locust.

"They`re looking for the guy," Szymakowski said.

Police are looking for 39-year-old Theron Brown. Brown is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl inside an apartment building in the area.

"That`s disgusting. I have two kids of my own and I wouldn`t want my kids around that stuff," Szymakowski said.

According to a criminal complaint, following the assault, Brown drove the girl home and "offered her money to keep quiet."

The girl told her mother, who reported it to police.

Court records show Brown is a registered sex offender. He was convicted of second degree sexual assault of a child 16 years ago, and in 2009, he spent a couple months behind bars for failing to update his information for the Sex Offender Registry.

Neighbors said they haven't seen Brown in about a week.

"I hope it don`t happen again. I hope I never see him and he`ll get what`s coming to him," Szymakowski said.

Brown's aunt lives in the apartment building, and said Brown left the night of the alleged incident. While she has trouble speaking, she shared a plea for her nephew to do the right thing.

"Please -- turn yourself in. Do it for your auntie. Do it for yourself. Do it for all of us that love you," Shirley Brown said.
