18-year-old Milwaukee man federally indicted, accused of stealing three cars in two days

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee teen faces federal charges after authorities say he went on a carjacking spree. Investigators say he used a sawed-off shotgun to steal three cars in just two days. 18-year-old Cliffton Harris threatened three lives, stole the victims' cars, and had a clear plan of what to do with them.

The  carjacking spree began near 17th and Keefe on March 15th. As a woman walked to her car, two men waited.

According to a federal indictment, moments later, they demanded her car, pulling out a single-barreled sawed-off shotgun and asking the woman, "do you want to die?"

The woman held out her keys, fearing for her life.

Investigators say it wasn't the only carjacking Harris and an accomplice took part in.

Two days earlier near 54th and Keefe, as a man was moving child car seats in his minivan, Harris and another man approached, pulling out a gun and demanding the vehicle.

Officials say the two men jumped into the car and began driving while the victim was still in the back of the minivan.

Ten minutes later, the pair drove to a new location in the stolen minivan.

At 36th and Brown Street, as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer unloaded tools from his trunk, the criminal duo pulled out a gun and stole his car.

Eventually, investigators took Harris into custody.

Court documents reveal Harris admitted to a detective, he and others steal cars to "sell to local drug dealer."

Now, Harris could face a lifetime behind bars because of it.

Harris was formally indicted this week. It is unclear whether the second suspect was arrested.
