"He was a great person:" Mike Neufeldt's legacy lives on at New Berlin Eisenhower baseball tournament
NEW BERLIN -- This Memorial Day weekend, a hero of a different kind is being honored. A local man known for his strength and perseverance, New Berlin Eisenhower High School hosted its first annual game in memory of Mike Neufeldt.
With each at bat, Mike Neufeldt is remembered. A special man who never struck out at anything he did in life.
"Mike was a fighter. He never gave up, he lived his life doing the best each day. Glass half full not half empty," said Carol Neufeldt, Mike's mother.

The former national Muscular Dystrophy Association Goodwill Ambassador passed away last year.
"Was always trying to raise money with telethons. That's something he was very passionate about and wanted to help others," said Tom Kurtz, Mike's friend.
Despite his condition, the New Berlin Eisenhower and Marquette alumni succeeded in life, including being named a Burke Scholar for his academic achievements and community service.
"He was a great person and in his 37 years he accomplished so much and we miss him, and I think this is just a way to keep him memory alive," said Kurtz.
Also a major sports enthusiast, Neufeldt had a passion for baseball. Saturday, a wood bat tournament was held in his honor.
For his mother Carol, being in the stands at a field named after her son is bittersweet.
"We always know Mike is smiling," said Carol.
White at Eisenhower, Neufeldt spent his time in the press box and as scorekeeper. But his spirit and positive attitude definitely touched players on the field and he impacted everyone he came across during his lifetime.
"He was probably the best person I've ever known," said Kurtz.
Now, he's known by the next generation who is motivated by his actions.
"We want this kids to know that they can go through anything, through any challenges, and do well in life," said Tom Potts, New Berlin Eisenhower baseball booster program president.
When it came to the game of life, Neufeldt was a winner.
