"It came quick:" EF1 tornado strikes village in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC COUNTY -- A path of tornado damage is more than four miles long. The National Weather Service confirms an EF1 tornado touched down Friday evening, May 27th in Brandon, Wisconsin. The storm cut through the village of about 900 people located in Fond du Lac County.

The EF1 tornado had wind speeds topping 100 miles-per-hour, according to the NWS. The storm knocked down trees and power lines, and damaged 25 homes.

Storm clean up is now underway in Brandon.

Cody Farrell is sifting through his backyard on Saturday, looking for bits of broken glass.

"It was pretty scary. I mean it came quick. We didn't have much of a chance to react and get to the basement," said Farrell.

The storm shattered Farrell's patio table.

"Four young kids that like to walk barefoot. This summer might be trouble," said Farrell.

Farrell's wife was around the corner of the house, handling broken branches.

"We looked out the window and saw garbage cans flying and trees breaking over down the road," said Michelle Farrell.

The NWS reports the tornado touched down about 5:35 p.m. Friday evening, traveling four and half miles, cutting through the center of the small town of Brandon.

"Strip all the way through town. It started in a new subdivision and came all the way to the park, and then jumped over the railroad tracks and went back up," said Wayne Robertson.

The tornado was on the ground just under 20 minutes, according to the NWS.

Residents FOX6 News spoke with say the town went to work on clean up immediately following the storm.
