DODGE COUNTY — One person was killed and three others were injured in a crash that happened in the Township of Ashippun in Dodge County on Wednesday, June 8th.

The crash happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. at County Highway P and County Highway O.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a GMC was headed north on County Highway P — approaching the intersection with County Highway O.  At the same time, a Kia was traveling east on County Highway O, approaching the posted stop sign at the intersection with County Highway P.

Sheriff’s officials say the Kia, driven by a 16-year-old boy from Richfield, failed to yield the right-of-way to the GMC and entered the intersection.

The front of the Kia struck the left side of the GMC, causing the GMC to overturn.  The driver of the GMC, identified as 74-year-old John Rawlings of Ixonia, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old driver and 15-year-old passenger in the Kia, and a 72-year-old female passenger from the GMC were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

So sad. New drivers need more training behind the wheel with someone in the passenger seat to help them learn what to do in different situation that occur in everyday driving that you don’t get taught now days. Back when i was in high school they had a driving course that you had to pass to just get your temps.
