Darien man arrested after posting photo to Facebook, allegedly threatening to kill officers

DELAVAN -- A Walworth County man was arrested after investigators say he made threats to law enforcement officials on Facebook.

Delavan police say the 34-year-old Darien man posted a photo of himself holding a military-style assault rifle.

Police say he commented -- saying he wanted to use it to kill officers.

Investigators say the threats were directed at Delavan police and the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.

A police officer discovered the post on Facebook and took it very seriously.

"One of our officers discovered it on social media, and as he discovered it, we immediately started an investigation for officer safety, because it involved not only our department, but other law enforcement officers in general so we take that very seriously," Delavan Police Chief Timothy O'Neill said.
