Guitars for Vets offers up Big Cut Challenge on Natl PTSD Awareness Day

KENOSHA -- Guitars for Vets co-founder, Patrick Nettesheim has not cut his hair for nearly 30 years. To draw attention to the devastating problem of post traumatic stress disorder in many of our country's military veterans, he chose to take a military buzz cut on National PTSD Awareness Day. His heart is in helping vets recover from the lasting effects of combat through the healing effect of music. Guitars for Vets donates guitars and guitar lessons to military veterans, all at no charge to them. Guitars for Vets was created over 9 years ago, when Patrick was hired to give guitar lessons to Dan Van Buskirk, a Vietnam-era Marine. They decided to take a few guitars to a local VA Hospital and from that day, realized how the power of music could have a lasting effect on some of the veterans. The program has grown to over sixty chapters across the country, having donated over 2500 guitars and over 25,000 guitar lessons. Patrick now passes on the challenge to others, either to take the big cut or donate to the cause.
