Celebrating freedom: Area vets give back to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight selling flags

MILWAUKEE -- Celebrating our nation's freedom by thanking those who fought for it. Local veterans were out at area Sendik's stores on Saturday, July 2nd for a special meet and greet.

Besides swapping stories, the veterans were also selling mini American flags for $1. 100% of the proceeds benefit the "Stars and Stripes Honor Flight."

The honor flight program takes local World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials.

"We're thrilled for the chance to get out and encourage more Korean War and the World War II vets that are remaining who haven't flown with us to do so. Because it's their turn to be honored and we'd like to do that while we still have the chance," said Karyn Roelke, Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
