"Kids from Wisconsin" help Milwaukee children "Realize Their Dream"

MILWAUKEE -- A summer music tour is helping Milwaukee children "Realize Their Dream." Kids from Wisconsin features high school and college musical talent -- touring the state each summer. On Wednesday, July 6th, the tour stopped in Washington Park -- where the performed invited children to get involved.

"20 singer/dancers, thirteen piece band," said Mark Dorn, show producer. "Go on the road for ten weeks and do performances in Wisconsin and all over the region."

Dorn shapes the two-hour expo put on by the Kids from Wisconsin. There's a broad repertoire of music. But the show on Wednesday was a show within a show.

"We teach them audition tips, we teach them parts of our show. We do a rhythm section with the band," said Peggy Morgan Strimple, outreach coordinator on the tour. "Really mentoring with the Kids of Wisconsin and teach them they can realize their dream too and performing right along with us."

That means Annemarie Ryan is one of the musician mentors. The Pleasant Prairie native says the benefits are two-fold.

"We get to experience what's like to be mentors -- and it's a fun experience to connect with them in something they enjoy and we enjoy as well," said Ryan.

That is sound advice on the value of music and the power of sharing the arts.
