Dallas PD: Search of police parking garage completed; nothing suspicious found

DALLAS -- Dallas police said on Twitter Saturday evening, July 9th, moments before 8:00 p.m., a search of a parking garage near the Dallas Police Department's headquarters concluded -- and no suspicious persons or items were found.

Police said the police parking garage was being searched for a suspicious person.

Dallas PD said on Twitter officers planned to breach a locked door in the garage with a shotgun.

A manual search of the garage was completed, and then K-9 officers were brought in for a secondary search.

The first and second floors of the garage were cleared -- and shortly before 8:00 p.m., Dallas PD said the search had concluded -- and nothing suspicious was found.

FOX6's Ben Handelman reported from Dallas Saturday evening that a SWAT Team ran behind the Dallas Police Department's headquarters -- and news crews were asked to stay back.

A Dallas police spokeswoman said Saturday evening the department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has tightened security.

Dallas Police Department spokeswoman Sr. Cpl. Monica Cordova called the measures precautionary.

An armored vehicle was moved to near the department's downtown headquarters late Saturday afternoon and heavily armed officers were seen walking nearby. But members of the public were still able to walk about freely around the building.

Other departments around the country have been receiving threats.

They follow videos involving police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota and the killing of five police officers by a sniper in Dallas.
