Love to sing? At least 55 years old? Applications being accepted for "Senior Idol" in Walworth Co.!

WALWORTH COUNTY -- If you or someone you know likes to sing and is 55 years old or older -- a heads up -- "Senior Idol" auditions are approaching in Walworth County.

Auditions will be held September 1st at 3:30 p.m. at the Walworth County Fairgrounds Park Stage.

The winner will receive $100 -- and will perform as opening act for Scotty McCreery at Walworth County Fair on Sunday, September 4th.

There will be additional prizes for second and third place winners.

There is a $10 fee to enter the contest -- and you must be at least 55 years old by August 31st, 2016.

Entry is limited to the first 60 applications received.

Below are the rules:

TO ENTER: Acts must submit an entry form along with a $10 entry fee. Please make checks payable to Geneva Lake Manor. Mail form and check to: Senior Idol Contest, 211 South Curtis Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147, Attn: Aimee. Returned checks are subject to a $15 service charge. Entries must be received by Geneva Lake Manor or postmarked no later than August 25, 2016 and are limited to the first 60 entries received.  An act is defined as a single or solo (1 person), duet (2 people), or group (3 or more). Refunds will not be issued unless act notifies Geneva Lake Manor of cancellation 24 hours before scheduled audition date. This contest is for vocalists only; non-vocalists are ineligible. This contest is not affiliated with any other “Senior Idol” or talent competition. If you win first place, you will be the opening act for Scotty McCreery at the Grand Stands on Sunday, September 4th, 2016 and must be able to

perform on that date. DIVISIONS: All acts will compete in one division and entrants must be 55 years of age or older by August 31, 2016.

ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to all amateur entertainers. Professionals (union musicians or those whose talent is a principle source of income) are not permitted to enter. Persons who have been convicted of a felony and/ or crimes against people or property are not eligible for the competition. Persons employed by any fair sponsors, Walworth County Fair, a WISH community, Kunes Country Ford, or WSLD are ineligible to enter. Previous Senior Idol winners are also ineligible to enter.

AUDITIONS: The contest consists of a single audition and the winner will be announced at the end. Audition date and time is noted above.  You must audition in person. All auditions are in front of a live audience. Audience members are encouraged to observe and positively support all contestants. All lyrics must be memorized; no props, prompters, or note cards may be used. Up to 60 contestants may audition.

ADMISSION AND PARKING: The Walworth County Fair operates an All Pay Gate Policy. You are responsible for your gate admission; parking is free on the grounds.  DRESSING ROOMS: Dressing rooms are not available; please plan to use public restrooms for your auditions. PERSONAL OUTFIT OR CLOTHING: The Walworth County Fair is a family event. Any profanity on t-shirts or inappropriate attire or songs will not be allowed; judges have the right to disqualify. JUDGING: Judges’ decisions are final. Acts will be judged on: Musicality (pitch, timing, phrasing, tone); Vocal Ability (quality, expression, interpretation); and Performance (stage presence, style, charisma). The contest will be judged by a panel of three judges.

SONG SELECTION: Song selection can be country, or country cross-over, Christian, gospel, adult soft contemporary, soft rock, show tunes, musicals, or legends (ie: Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland). We will not allow spoken word, rap, or heavy metal. STAGE: The venue is an outdoor covered stage, with a concrete floor. It is located in the park on the fairgrounds. Contest will be held rain or shine.

SOUND SYSTEM: All acts are required to use the sound system and sound technician provided by WISH. RECORDED ACCOMPANIMENT: Vocalist(s) must use recorded accompaniment provided it contains instrumental accompaniment only; some background singing may be allowed on the recording. Only a CD may be used; no cassette tapes please. If a self-made CD will be used, please bring a backup additional CD with you. Because of the quality deviations in CD recorders, not all self-made CDs are readable on all machines.

AWARDS: Each contestant will receive a small gift for entering the contest. The 2nd place finisher will receive $50, and the third place finisher $25. The first place winner will receive $100 and a season pass for next year’s fair. In addition, the winner will get to perform at the Grand Stand on Sunday, September 4th, 2016 as the opening act for Scotty McCreery. There will be no recording contract; this is strictly a WISH/Walworth County Fair local talent contest.
