Man sustains life-threatening injuries in wrong-way crash in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY -- A 30-year-old man from West Allis was taken to the hospital by Flight for Life late Wednesday night, July 13th following a head-on crash in Jefferson County.

The crash occurred around 11:40 p.m. on westbound I-94 near Johnson Creek.

According to authorities, a small SUV and a dump truck collided. Officials say the SUV had been traveling the wrong way on I-94 when it entered a construction zone and struck the dump truck head-on.

When troopers arrived on scene, both vehicles were on fire and the driver of the SUV was trapped in his vehicle. Fire and EMS arrived and were able to extinguish the fire and extricate the driver from his vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was then transported via Flight For Life to Froedtert hospital in Milwaukee with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, a 55-year-old Milwaukee man, was not injured.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor.
