Sheriff’s Office: Baby dies after inmate with special needs gives birth at Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE — Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office say a baby was found unresponsive at the Milwaukee County Jail Thursday morning, July 14th after an inmate with special needs gave birth.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a correctional officer making a routine housing unit inspection in the Special Needs section of the Milwaukee County Jail found a woman holding a baby.

The inmate had not notified anyone that she was going into labor.

Milwaukee Fire Department emergency personnel and jail medical staff responded.

The baby was pronounced dead.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

The inmate was transported to the hospital.

An investigation is underway.

    Was this woman not monitored by the staff. Someone should have known how far along this women was. And if she was giving birth, someone should have seen something or heard something. What a tragic Loss of an innocent child.

    If she was pregnant with. Special needs why werent they making sure they were giving her the right help they have cameras and nobody heard anything Milwaukee county jail needs to be at fault and they should be responsible its sad real sad.
