Indianapolis police officer shot, second officer wounded prior to pursuit; suspect "down"

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were injured, one of them shot, prior to a pursuit on Monday, July 25th.

According to WXIN, the pursuit began around 6:45, south of 71st Street near Georgetown Road. The pursuit then went south toward I-465 and Kentucky Avenue.

Police say the shooting happened before the pursuit began.

One officer was shot and and a second was injured. It’s not clear at this time how the second officer was injured.

IMPD officials told WXIN the officer who was shot was alert and conscious at the hospital, and it is believed he suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was reportedly shot and was “down,” according to IMPD.
