Bullets recovered by Milwaukee investigators link Dimitri McDaniels to 2 crime scenes

Dimitri McDaniels

MILWAUKEE -- 29-year-old Dimitri McDaniels of Milwaukee is charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Remone Reed near 49th and Fiebrantz on Sunday morning, June 19th -- as well as the shooting and wounding of a man near Teutonia and Villard on Thursday, June 16th.

McDaniels faces the following charges:

The criminal complaint indicates that forensic evidence shows the same weapon was used in both of the crimes listed above.

On Thursday, June 16th, a man met with McDaniels to purchase some Oxycodone pills. During that transaction, McDaniels (who was later identified through a photo array) attempted to rob the man. He pulled out a gun and told the man to get out. As the man was getting out of the van, he was shot and wounded.

Officers investigating this shooting later recovered "a copper jacketed bullet" from the scene. It was placed on inventory at the Milwaukee Police Department as evidence.

On Sunday morning, June 19th, police responded to the area near 49th and Fiebrantz. When they arrived on the scene, they found Remone Reed had "suffered a gunshot wound to the left eye." His body was found in an alley. Reed died on the scene. Investigators recovered a 9mm caliber bullet from the scene of Reed's death.

With help from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab learned that the bullets found at Teutonia and Villard and 49th & Fiebrantz "were fired through the same firearm barrel."

McDaniels faces up to 60 years in prison with the reckless homicide charge -- the most serious of the charges against him.
