Former District Attorney E. Michael McCann robbed of his wallet while out for a walk

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating strong-armed robbery that happened near 66th and Fairview on Milwaukee's west side on Monday, July 25th.

Officials say the victim, who FOX6 News has learned was former Milwaukee County District Attorney E. Michael McCann, was approached by a suspect around 10:15 p.m. while out for a walk.

McCann had just visited a shrine to pray.

The suspect forcibly removed McCann’s wallet from his pocket -- and fled the area on foot.

McCann told FOX6 News he was not hurt in this incident. He said he has been living in the neighborhood for 45 years -- and often goes for an evening walk. McCann said something like this has never happened before.

FOX6 News spoke with a woman who visits the shrine often. She said it's normally a very peaceful area.

"It's good to be aware when you live in a city where there's a lot of people and goings on, you know -- being aware of your surroundings. Always a good idea. I wouldn't be too concerned about it, but I always walk around with a sense of awareness," the woman said.

Milwaukee police said a 49-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody in connection with this incident -- on July 26th near 35th and Highland.

Police are seeking two other suspects.
