34-year-old Madison man tased twice; then arrested after day-long standoff

MADISON -- A Madison man was arrested after a day-long standoff on Wednesday, August 3rd.

According to WMTV, 34-year old Eric Pottinger fled by foot on Monday, August 1st after a Dane County Sheriff's detective attempted to arrest him on a warrant for a parole violation. He ran into the woods behind his home and was not located.

Officials say a deputy on patrol noticed activity inside the home on Tuesday and alerted the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

The task force made entry into the house and Pottinger retreated to an attic. He then crawled through a small window to the roof.

Additional deputies, along with the Madison Fire Department, responded in an attempt to talk him down peacefully, but he remained uncooperative and threatening.

Officials say a knife was recovered off the ground after Pottinger accidentally dropped it.

After more time had passed, Pottinger moved to an elevated patio in an attempt to push a ladder away from the house.

A Taser was used on him twice -- and he was taken into custody.

Pottinger now faces additional charges of resisting arrest, second degree recklessly endangering safety and failure to comply with law enforcement.
