GARY, Ind. – A Muslim woman says she was booted from a Family Dollar store in Indiana for wearing traditional Islamic garb, and she recorded the incident on video.

Sarah Safi, 32, says she went to the store on Monday to purchase charcoal for a family barbecue, WLS-TV reports.

“I might have made it 10 steps into the store and I hear the lady behind the counter say, ‘Ma’am, you need to take that off your face or you need to leave my store,'” Safi told WLS-TV.

Safi began to record the exchange on her cell phone. She told the clerk, who identified herself as the manager, that she was wearing a niqab and a hijab for religious purposes.

“I understand, but you have to understand, too, this is a high crime area and we get robbed a lot. You need to remove that from your face or remove yourself from the store,” the manager is heard saying in the video.

The manager told her if she didn’t leave the store she would call the police.

Safi says her children were waiting in the car, so she decided to leave the so her children wouldn’t have to see their mother confronted by police.

“Do I wait for the police to come and let my children see this, or do I go head and just go and let Allah handle it how he sees fit?” she said she asked herself.

Safi says she really just wants to sit down with the manager and talk with her about her beliefs and why she wears a niqab and a hijab.

WLS-TV says the manager did not want to speak on camera and Family Dollar has not replied to a request for comment.

HAHA -High crime area and she left her kids in the car??? The liberals are really going to have a dilemma here. I totally understand where the store is coming from -ever see the video of the woman putting a flat screen tv under her dress? I’m sure they’ll tie this to Pence being in Indiana……

It is a high crime area with signs that say you have to show your face. Welcome to the west. If she wants to live like that move to the middle east.

Just show your face. This is the way it works. If you do not like it, move to the middle east. In Europe most countries will ripe it off of your face and take you to jail.

Well my religious belief is I don’t want to die bcuz u may or may not be a criminal. So understand where my fear is coming from and understand my store policy and take the damn cover off.

That’s not only a store rule it is also a rule at many banks. There’s a bank 1 city over from where I live and it’s no hats of any kind, no sunglasses and no face coverings or you cannot come in. Terrorists and criminals are the reason for this rule so deal with it.

I think she wanted to cause an issue here why else have the camera rolling…the manager has a right to do what’s right given a high crime area…that garment is yes for a religous reason but so every few here being use for religous reasons…they haven’t been used As such so I understand the mistrust …that is why I think it wasn’t taken seriously by anyone…
