Wife to police: Husband jumped to death from vehicle during fight

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A Colorado man died after jumping from a moving vehicle during a fight with his wife Thursday, the woman told Lakewood police.

Police were called about 11:40 p.m. on a report of a man lying in a lane of traffic on South Garrison Street near West 10th Avenue in Lakewood, according to KDVR. The intersection is located just over 7 miles west of Denver.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

Detectives were able to find the man's wife, who said the two had been arguing as they were traveling on Garrison Street. She said her husband jumped out of the moving vehicle.

When police arrived, they saw damage to power poles and traffic signals in the intersection, but no vehicle that could have caused the damage. The man's wife said she was trying to control the vehicle after he leapt from the car when she plowed into the poles. The damaged vehicle was found several blocks away.

The crash remains under investigation and toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved are pending.

The names and ages of the man and woman will not be released until the Jefferson County Coroner's Office has notified next of kin and pending any arrest or charges.

Power was knocked out to about 1,700 Xcel Energy customers but was restored by 8:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lakewood police at 303-987-7111.
