Alcohol, drugs suspected: Charges expected against Waukesha man after motorcyclists killed in crash

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its reports related to a crash that killed two motorcyclists Saturday, August 6th near 6th and McKinley. Milwaukee police tell FOX6 News charges are pending against the driver of a pickup truck in this case.

The crash involved the two motorcyclists and the pickup truck.

Police say the motorcyclists were headed eastbound on McKinley Avenue when the pickup truck made a left turn in front of the motorcycles.

The two motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have now been identified as 25-year-old Deangelo Maxwell of Milwaukee and 36-year-old James Morris of Milwaukee. The preliminary manner of death for both men has been ruled an accident.

The crash happened early Saturday morning. The medical examiner's report states that the driver of the pickup truck involved in this crash flagged down a Milwaukee Fire Department engine en route to another incident after the crash.

Maxwell was pronounced dead around 2:30 a.m. Morris was pronounced dead around 5:00 a.m.

The report indicates Maxwell suffered extensive trauma to his head and neck region. Morris suffered a severe laceration and trauma to his leg.

Maxwell's immediate cause of death was noted to be blunt force head injury.

Morris' immediate cause of death was noted to be multiple blunt force injuries.

Neither of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets, according to the medical examiner.

According to the report, Milwaukee police stated it appeared Maxwell and Morris were headed eastbound on McKinley, coming off the freeway at a high rate of speed. The driver of the pickup truck was facing westbound on McKinley -- turning southbound onto N. 6th Street. When the pickup went to turn left, the truck struck Morris. Maxwell apparently saw his friend get hit, and tried to stop his motorcycle, but lost control and crashed on McKinley into/near a fence -- about a block away.

The pickup truck suffered severe front-end damage.

The report states that a marijuana pipe was found on the ground near the pickup truck's driver's side door after the crash, and two open bottles of alcohol were noted in the backseat.

According to the report, this crash was captured by a camera on the MATC building on 6th Street. That video was obtained by investigators.

Alcohol and drugs are suspected in this incident, police say.

Charges against the pickup truck's driver are pending. He was arrested at the scene of the crash for two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
