Caledonia police seek suspects accused of stealing 1,316 gallons of gasoline from BP gas station

CALEDONIA -- Caledonia police are seeking suspects accused of stealing a total of 1,316 gallons of premium gasoline (worth around $4,000) from the BP gas station on 7 Mile Road at the E. Frontage Road in Caledonia in late July and early August.

According to police, these thefts occurred on July 25th, July 27th and August 3rd -- between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

"We found on camera these three days," Joy Peter, owner of the gas station said.

Police say during each incident, a large, bright red, paneled Chevy van pulled up to the gas pumps.

A black male suspect used an unknown device to bypass the credit card reader and activate the pump.

Peter said he monitors how much gas the station sells, and noticed the numbers didn't match up with how much gas had been pumped out. There is no record of the gas being stolen other than video surveillance.

The suspect placed the nozzle inside of the van and filled large holding tanks or 55 gallon drums.

Peter said based on the surveillance video, the suspects were on the property for at least 30 minutes during each theft, and they took around 400 gallons of gasoline during each visit.

"We lost almost around $4,000," Peter said.

Other suspect vehicles are a dark-colored Chevy Suburban and a white Cadillac Escalade.

Police say they're not aware of any other gas stations being targeted like this -- but said this particular BP gas station's location may have been factor for the suspects, as it is located right along a major roadway, but drivers have to follow signs around the block to reach its entrance.
