MILWAUKEE — A 19-year-old man is dead after drowning at the Washington Park pool near 40th and Lloyd in Milwaukee on Wednesday night, August 10th. The victim has been identified as Christopher Taylor.

Police were called to the scene around 10:40 p.m.

According to police, 19-year-old Taylor and several friends were at the park. The medical examiner’s report states they smoked marijuana, and then Taylor climbed over the locked fence to gain access to the closed swimming pool. The medical examiner’s report indicates Taylor sat on the edge of the pool for a short time before getting up and jumping in. Shortly after entering the water, Taylor began having trouble swimming.

Officials say two of his friends climbed over the fence to help him, but were unable to provide assistance. They then called 911 and flagged down a park worker. When police arrived on scene, they found Taylor in the deep end of the pool.  Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Taylor’s girlfriend informed police that the he did not know how to swim, according to the medical examiner’s report.

The preliminary manner of death in this case has been ruled an accident. The final cause of death has been ruled freshwater drowning.

They have midnight basketball, why can’t they have midnight swimming (with lifeguards). How else are kids supposed to be safe on hot summer nights?!?

That’s a pretty unreasonable punishment for going for a late night swim. Get over yourself. This person has a family who is grieving. I don’t know very many people who haven’t tried to sneak into a pool or lake after dark when they were young at some point or another… and before you ask, I am white, upper middle class, and live in the suburbs.

Actually, I lived on 30th and North for 5 years up until 2 years ago. I know full well the problems Milwaukee faces.
And, need I remind you, we’re all animals.

Once again, people being where they’re not supposed to be and crap happens. So the friends couldn’t be bothered to get him out of the pool? Hauling up an unconscious person is one of the easiest things there is, much easier than a conscious victim. The average person weighs only about 10-20 pounds in water. I went through the Lifesaving class in high school twice.

That’s sad. Advocating for better safety features misses the point. This man voluntarily climbed a fence and then jumped in a pool, knowing full well that he could not swim.

A terrible accident that could have easily been avoided by common sense.

People talking about lifeguards. This park closes at 10pm. Remember the pool was closed and he jumped over the fence. He had been smoking pot b4 he did that which is similar to OWI. So blame no one but him.
