Pres. Barack Obama

MILWAUKEE — President Barack Obama on Sunday, August 14th was briefed on the situation in Milwaukee — where violence erupted Saturday night, August 13th and into Sunday in the wake of a fatal officer-involved shooting.

According to a statement from the White House, President Obama on Sunday morning was updated on the situation in Milwaukee by his Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, who had spoken with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett earlier in the day to offer the administration’s support for local authorities.

President Obama asked to be kept updated on any new developments.

Angry crowds took to the streets in Milwaukee on Saturday night to protest the shooting death of an armed man by a police officer hours earlier.

Protesters burned several stores and threw rocks at police in the city’s north side, leaving one officer injured. Smoke and orange flames filled the night sky.

The incident started Saturday afternoon when two officers stopped two people who were in a car in the north side, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Shortly after, both car occupants fled on foot as officers pursued them, police said.

During the chase, an officer shot one of the two — a 23-year-old man who was armed with a handgun, according to authorities.

“He (officer) ordered that individual to drop his gun, the individual did not drop his gun,” Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said. “He had the gun with him and the officer fired several times.”

The man died at the scene. It’s unclear whether the second occupant of the car is in police custody.

‘All-out-effort’ to restore order

Hours after the shooting, a large crowd turned out to protest later that night. Some demonstrators threw objects at police cars, leaving one officer hospitalized after a brick struck him in the head, the mayor said.

Some protesters set buildings ablaze, including a gas station, a beauty shop, a bank and an auto shop.

Three people who were in the gas station rushed out before it went up in flames, the mayor said.

Go home, mayor pleads

As the chaos escalated, authorities implored the crowds to disperse and go home. Some used social media to urge others to come out and take part in the protests, according to Barrett.

“If you love your son, if you love your daughter text them, call them, pull them by the ears and get them home. Get them home right now before more damage is done,” the mayor said.

The mayor said police presence will be strong as part of an “all-out-effort” to restore order. At least three people have been arrested, he said.

The shooting occurred near the scene of a double homicide that happened this month. In the related attacks August 9, a man was shot dead while another one was fatally stabbed, police said.

“This is a neighborhood that has unfortunately been affected by violence in the recent past,” Barrett said.

“I know this neighborhood very very well. And there are a lot of really really good people who live in this area — in the Sherman Park area, who can’t stand this violence.”

At 3:20 a.m. Sunday, police tweeted that they are restoring order and “reducing deployments.”

Local officials plan to meet with church and community leaders Sunday to discuss ways to move forward.

Police: Suspect had stolen gun

The suspect, 23, was shot twice — in the arm and chest, the mayor said. His handgun was stolen during a burglary in Waukesha in March, according to police.

“The victim of that burglary reported 500 rounds of ammunition were also stolen with the handgun,” police said in a statement.

The officer, 24, was assigned to District 7 and has six years of service with the Milwaukee Police Department — three of those as an officer.

He was not injured and will be placed on administrative duty during the investigation and subsequent review by the district attorney’s office.

At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a body camera, Barrett said, adding that it was his understanding that it was operational.

By state law, the Wisconsin Department of Justice will lead the investigation.

If I was a black president I would be getting on a plane right this second !! Take my security team and head to Milwaukee right now and tell his people to Stop !!! Stop !!!! Stop !! Obey the laws of this country !!!! But, where is he? He is getting status on the situation. What a freaking joke. Really. and, you want to criticize Donald Trump for not having any values or character and your saying Donald is dangerous? Man up Obama and get your butt to Milwaukee right now you wuss !!!!!!! Be a man !!!! And, then you want to blame George Bush for not stopping in New Orleans when hurricane Katrina hit. WHERE IS THE LEADER OF THIS COUNTRY? Oh yeah, he is probably at a LGBT Pride Parade somewhere.

“The victim of that burglary reported 500 rounds of ammunition were also stolen with the handgun,” police said in a statement.

Stop breaking the law. How hard is that to understand? Do not run from the police. Do not flee from the police. Do not posses a stolen handgun. Do not point said stolen hand gun at the police. I would say that is an internal community problem or certain race. What group of people commit 55% of the violent crime in this country? That group only makes up 13% of the population. The same group that rioted. Now do you want to get into the programs that only these rioters can use? Stop blaming everyone else for these peoples self made problems.

    • Cheridee

Why are all of you so angry? Why are all of you in shock? Why blame the innocent for the actions of evil? I am not for anyone in the conformed societies actions. You who spew racist comments to the criminal who stole the gun he fired at the officer. Everything that’s happening was written as to come. In that, I was raised in Milwaukee, and have been out of there for years. I am watching all of you act just as it is written. You who feel that the law is right, are of the same breed that used the law to sick dogs on my family, watering them down on city streets via the fire department, and your folk hanging innocent people based on the color of their skin. You’re all guilty! Every conformed idiot that feel entitled to spew evil in every way. The sad thing about it all, as I watch you all make a complete idiot of yourselves…is you’re not safe. It’s not over. You’re all hanging by a thin thread in time. You hate the black boy who stole the gun, the rioters are making no sense, and you who spew your idiosyncrasies about the black race are all conformed to this world. You have every evil reaping coming that you and your forefathers have sown. You think you’re free from evil? Think again, because you are evil. Stop posing blame and fame on it not being your fault. All of you are living out the hell you reeked and this is just the beginning. I live right so right comes to me…and the righteous are righteous still, as you filthy remain filthy in your thoughts, comments, actions, superiority…While you’re focused on conformity, I am focused on my next move to get my inheritance that you and yours stole and try your best to hold on to…You keep bringing up Trillions in debt…News flash, this country can’t pay back what is owed…and the deficit started long before 2008. Everything that’s happening is supposed to be happening with people like you all that feel entitled in a stolen world built of blood shed, lies, and fake smiles. I refuse to warrant you a comeback other than evil begot evil and these black children you see reeking havoc is a product of your conformity. You’re no better than them. You’re suffering right with them. Get off your high-horse living poor as they are in the mind. Your time is up! Carry on…

Waiting to see (EVER) a headline: Unrest in the wake of injuries to police officers doing their duty. It seems to be OK for officers to be injured or killed, but if an armed miscreant is injured or killed, there is an immediate, robotic response of unrest even before any of the facts are known.

  • Crabby Hayes

I’m sure the citizens of Milwaukee will take a great deal of comfort in knowing The President is being kept informed. The next step will likely be even more comforting: when he sends in a team DOJ attorneys to perform thier inquisition of city and law enforcement officials.

  • Frank

Civil rights used to be about striving for a common humanity. Radical multiculturalism is the opposite. It means to break humanity down into competing gender, racial, and sexual preference groups and then to pretend that our humanity is defined only by our membership in that singular group. Nothing could be farther from how civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. viewed equality. To him, black people were deserving of equality because they were human beings, not because they were black.

In order to make this new social multicultural fiction work, we need to use the power of law and the administrative state to force the new social reality on society. And it is precisely in that action that the competition for power and privilege becomes a source not of liberation, but of coercion and the very definition of a totalitarian society and government.

This country is a mess. We have the first African-American president and he has done nothing for the black communities that are hurting the worst. If I can feel the pain of an ignored population, being college-educated, white and middle class (and who knows for how long that will last), surely our first black president can feel it. Instead, he spends his summers at Martha’s Vineyard, playing golf, paying little to no attention to the people that need him most. What is wrong with him? The more this happens, the angrier I become. Is it enough for him to lead the life of a privileged politician and forget about his constituents that helped him become president? I want to know,: Mr. President, what have you done for the African-American community? I want to know, in eight years, what are the contributions you have made for a group of people who had such high hopes for you and need you so desperately? I doubt I will get an answer.

    • Frank

Long after Barack Obama is gone and ensconced in warm-weather golf-course mansions, the USA will remain divided. The them/us splits are the real Obama legacy that tops even his $20 trillion in debt, chronic zero interest rates, a wrecked Middle East, stagnant growth, a hemorrhaging medical system, and record labor non-participation rates.

Mr. President, Which of these could have been your sons? the 5 that were killed by members of their community Friday night (no protests, riots or marches), the one who was a felon in possession of a stolen hand gun and ammo shot by police after fleeing and refusal to obey orders (lots of marches, riots and protests), the ones that burned down legitimate tax paying business that helped to profit their communities, the ones that overturned public transportation shelters, the ones that torched police cars, the ones that threw a brick into a cop car, breaking the window and hitting an officer in the head on Saturday night, the ones still blaming everyone but themselves on Sunday morning? It is NOT societies fault. It is personal actions and responsibility of the individual or individuals that chose to break the laws. Quit trying to make it a race thing, a held back thing a slave thing.

  • chris

This POS and his corrupt, anti cop pro thug administration is to blame for all of this. He and his cabinet has single handily set race relations back 60 years. Please America. Do not put the liar Hillary in office. She will continue to destroy America for her own personal gain just as this sorry a** has.

On a cold and gray ghetto mornin’
A poor little baby child is spawned
    In Memphis
    And his breeder sow cries
’cause if there’s one thing that she don’t need
it’s another hungry mouth to feed
    In the ghetto
    People, don’t you understand
the child needs a welfare card
or he’ll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
are we too blind to see,
do we simply turn our heads
    and look the other way
    Well the world turns
and a hungry little boy with a coke-filled nose
plays in the street as the cold wind blows
    In Los Diablo
    And his addiction grows
so he starts to roam the streets at night
and he learns how to steal
and he learns how to kill
    In Chicongo
    Then one night in desperation
    a young thug breaks away
He steals a gun, jacks a car,
tries to run, but he don’t get far
    And his breeder sow cries
As a crowd gathers ’round a dead young thug
face down on the street with a gun in his hand

Vote for more democrats if you want things to be the same. They just want your vote so they can make a living off of somebody else’s money. They are career politicians just like the Republicans. You can only be given equality to a point, then you have to work for the rest. You don’t have the right to kill people or take their stuff or burn their businesses. Down south we are all in it together so we can’t act like that. Plus blacks and whites are heavily armed to protect against an encroaching federal government. We are supposed to be the most racist yet we seem to get along. There are not many jobs for any of us here, but it’s gotten better with conservative leadership. We are willing to work because it’s 95 % of the time it’s not going to be a union job, but we want to prosper. Even if it is from the bottom. Everyone can’t start at the top. There is nothing wrong with being rich or companies making money. God wants to prosper everyone, it just can’t be at the same time. We all need a little more Jesus and true love for our fellow man. I don’t get mad when I see people who have more than I. I am thankful for what I have because it can always be worse. We are not to covet thy neighbor,it leads to envy which is a sin.

  • Robert

These black people REALLY need to work on their “content of character” … that’s where they are severely lacking. Maybe if they could figure that out for awhile, it would be a lot easier to separate “color of their skin” from “total waste of life thug piece of trash”

  • Cheridee

To the contrary, it is you and yours who throw the race card. Every time it’s a crime in the city…You spew your hatred. I see meth crimes in the suburbs daily…I am around PWT who live with rats, who are looking for a hand out. There is no need to quote MLK…What you all should be quoting is where to hide. You’re going away from here in flames. Those black people reeking havoc was one a place were working class blacks kept up their homes and tried to make it working for AO Smith, and other businesses around that Sherman Park area. But your kind turned up your noses at us…and no matter how well we maintained beauty in those communities, you found a way to taunt and try to hold your powerless antics over our heads…So now you’re seeing the product of your breeding. Evil at it’s best. Those people rioting are your kind. You drew the poor to your city…To feel greatness in making 5 figures while you gave them welfare…Those are Native Milwaukeeans you live with…They are all the people conformed to your plan of action for generational handouts (the Plot to feel big)… They have adapted to exactly what your people thought you wanted. Poor Black Wild People to discuss over your beans and franks at dinner. Now you want to past them back to the color that matches their skin. Well, I beg to differ. These criminals who came there for the free handouts that you couldn’t sucker me or mine into taking have surfaced. You did your job…Now you’re not safe. I say, keep what you’ve bred! No race card here! Transformation of a person who has lived by learning, unlearning, and relearning the many facets of a GOOD life! That’s why, I live well, and I am watching the drama (lightly). It has been written from the beginning that this would all take place. If you want a real answer, read the book of Micah…It’s telling you what will come to you conformed society builders. You set yourselves up for this madness, now deal with it on your own. I don’t care about any parts of the conformed society. I am with transformed thinking, renewed mind thinking, power in action, not in words. So we can bury MLKs words for now…and go on the New Norm imps in their reaping. Those are your kids, not mine…You made them…You take them, You keep them…and the MPD and other civil entities are all reaping what they’ve sown…Safe Journey! As the Saga continues…Flames await…Tic Toc
