As Nebraska honored Sam Foltz, killed in crash in Wisconsin, thieves hit his brother's home

LINCOLN, Nebraska — While Nebraska honored punter Sam Foltz, who died in a car crash in Merton in Waukesha County on July 23rd, someone broke into his brother's home and car.

Greeley County Sheriff David Weeks says the burglary happened sometime after the Foltz family left home around noon to attend the game Saturday, September 3rd in Lincoln -- and before they returned around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

The thieves took items worth roughly $1,400, including a television and tools, from Jordan Foltz's home and vehicle in the Greeley, Nebraska, area.

Sam Foltz, who would have been a senior at Nebraska this fall, died in the crash along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. on July 23rd on Beaver Lake Road near Beaver View Road in Merton.

Officials say an investigation has revealed a vehicle was traveling westbound on Beaver Lake Road when the driver lost control on wet pavement. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, officials said. The crash happened in a 30 miles-per-hour zone.

Neighbors tell FOX6 News the vehicle burst into flames after striking the tree.

21-year-old Colby Delahoussaye from New Iberia, Louisiana, a place kicker for the LSU football team, was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment after the crash. He was released from the hospital on July 25th.

The three football players were in Wisconsin for the Kohl's Kicking Camp's "National Scholarship Camp" at Kettle Moraine High School in Wales. They were serving as camp counselors.

Foltz's parents presented a scholarship in his name and two of his nephews helped lead the team out before Saturday's game against Fresno State.
