Slenderman stabbing case: Anissa Weier enters insanity plea

WAUKESHA — Anissa Weier, the second of two young Wisconsin girls accused of trying to kill a classmate to please the horror character Slenderman has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to an attempted homicide charge.

The 14-year-old girl changed her plea Friday in Waukesha County Circuit Court from a previous not-guilty plea. Judge Michael Bohren appointed two doctors to examine her and turn in a report on her mental status by Oct. 6.

The other girl, 14-year-old Morgan Geyser, pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect last month.

Prosecutors say the girls lured classmate Payton Leutner to some woods in a Waukesha park in May 2014, stabbed her and fled. Payton crawled out of the woods to get help. All the girls were 12 at the time.
