COLONA, Illinois — One firefighter wanted to remember the attacks on 9/11 in a unique way. Colona firefighter Joe Parillo stood outside in full gear one minute for every firefighter that died during the attacks in New York, which is 5 hours and 43 minutes.

WQAD reports he started at 8:59 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, the moment when the first plane hit the towers.

A Moline photographer, Austin Drake, took photos and posted them to his Facebook page with the following:

Fireman Joe says he will be standing outside for an exact total of 343 minutes to commemorate the 343 brothers and sisters lost in the terrible event.

Joe has been a firefighter for 6 years now.
