Federal judge rules school district must allow transgender student to use the restroom he wants

KENOSHA -- Attorneys are calling it a victory for a transgender teenager from Kenosha. A federal judge has ruled his school district must allow him to use the boy's restroom.

16-year-old Ash Whitaker was born a female, but realized at a young age that he identified as a male.

School administrators insisted that Whitaker use the women's restrooms or private facilities -- separate from the school's other students.

The Transgender Law Center filed a lawsuit on his behalf.

A judge has now granted a preliminary injunction allowing Whitaker to use the bathroom he wants.
