Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi will not seek re-election in 2018

OAK CREEK -- Oak Creek residents will soon be looking for a new leader. Mayor Steve Scaffidi on Friday, September 23rd says he's not going to run for a third term.

Scaffidi tells FOX6 News, he's always planned to serve only two terms and he thinks it's time to see what someone else can do as mayor.

Mayor Scaffidi says he'd like to give whoever is the next mayor plenty of time to plan for a run. He says former Mayor Bolender, let him know about a year before he planned not to run, which gave Scaffidi plenty of opportunity to plan for his mayoral run.

Scaffidi was mayor at the time of the Sikh Temple shooting, and wrote a book about the community's response to the tragedy.

His current term runs through April, 2018.
