23-year-old Town of Salem man arrested after 1 killed in crash in Lafayette County

LAFAYETTE COUNTY -- An alleged drunk driver from the Town of Salem, was arrested following a crash that killed an Iowa man on State Highway 11 near Cub Hollow Road in Gratiot Township, located in Lafayette County.

The crash occurred just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, September 24th.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, the initial investigation reveals a 2002 Lexus car driven by a 22-year-old Iowa man, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 11 when a westbound 2014 GMC Savana cube van, driven by a 23-year-old Town of Salem man, crossed the center line striking the Lexus.

The man driving the Lexus suffered severe injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officials say a passenger in the Lexus suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment and was released.

The driver of the van also suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital and released.

Authorities say the Town of Salem man was then taken into custody and transported to the Lafayette County Jail where he is currently being held. He faces a tentative charge of homicide through intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, a Class D felony.
