VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A picture of  San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s jersey being taped to a restaurant’s floor is causing a stir online.

Virginia Beach resident James Perry said he walked into Krossroads Rock and Country Bar in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center Thursday and saw the jersey at the front entrance.

“What went through my mind was like 'Wow, is this real or is it a joke?' How would you feel if someone taped a police officer’s uniform down?" Perry asked.

Saturday, he took to social media posting this status:

Perry’s post was shared more than 3,000 times in 24 hours.

He's asking people to boycott the bar.

But some customers are standing by the Krossroads.

“I was not offended by that," Carol Bevilacqua said. "I think we live in a free country. I think people are allowed to do what they want.”

The general manager of the bar told News 3 taping the jersey down was about sportsmanship and Kaepernick's disrespect of the flag - not race.

Whatever the reason, Perry says the bar has now lost a longtime customer.

okay lets get this straight mr perry said this is racist against a man doing his constitional right but the restaurant cannot have the same right i think if he can discard the flag and kneel during the anthem and the flag you go restaurant

This isn’t a race thing. It’s about bad behavior. Just like resisting arrest and failing to comply with police orders.. .

Oh, I see, now you’re offended. That’s just too bad . Truthfully, if you think this is racist, you are probably the racist. I don’t even know Kaepernick’s race and don’t care . All I know is he acts very un-American by the disrespect he has shown to our Flag and our Country, and now, he’s got kids doing it. Some role model…….. he’s an example of a POS American Citizen.

I would love to be near this place and show the respect this ball player deserves. It’s not a black/white issue. Just a overpaid disrespectful individual.

Oh, so Kaepernick has the right to free speech, but this bar doesn’t?! Another example of the hypocrisy of these ridiculous people who perpetuate hate and racism in this country – whatever color they are. They are the true racists.

I may not believe in what you are saying but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Because THAT is what America is about. Come back when you’re ready to do the same.

  • Huh !

How do Kaepernick and Police Officers differ…um let’s see :
Kaepernick gets a boat load of money to entertain a paying audience, gets respect and adoration from children because of a sport, may risk injury (or death) on occasion by playing a game and most importantly, Does Not know how to use his status to help the situation (he should be doing public service ads telling kids how he got where he is, with hard work and staying in school ) !!!
A POLICE OFFICER gets little pay or benefits, rarely gets any sign of respect, whose family and self have to wonder if they will be coming home at the end of their shift ! These people are out there, day in and day out, for the public’s benefit not their own ! They love their country and try to make a difference in a positive manner ! Sometimes, due to the fact that they are human and cannot read minds deadly mistakes can happen but, to think the Police have some kind of “kill the blacks” attitude is absolutely unbelievable !!!

But Kap doesn’t play a game … he watches. There is no life or death struggle for him. An officer on light duty offers more to our nation.

  • Eddy Myballsitch

Crapper Dick is an ignorant malato goof… he donates the sales from the #7 jersey to charity because it is selling like hot cakes to people who want to burn it and duck tape it to the deck!
