"On the Issues:" MU Law School panel reflects on the life and work of the late James Foley

MILWAUKEE -- Remembering the legacy of James Foley. An "On the Issues" panel at Marquette University Law School discussed the life and work of the late journalist and MU alum.

Foley was a reporter in the Middle East.

He was captured and killed by the terror group ISIS while on an assignment in August of 2014.

Not only did the panel discuss the dangers and challenges of combat reporting that Foley faced, but they also reflected on his motivation.

"The people on the ground, the civilians that were living through war and what they were experiencing -- he felt like we don't pay attention to that. You see about death tolls. You see about bombings -- but you don't see what the every day person is going through and I knew that that was what was driving him to go to places like that," Thomas Durkin, a long-time friend of Foley said.

A documentary on Foley's life and work will be featured at this year's Milwaukee Film Festival, called "Jim: The James Foley Story."
