Milwaukee man taken into custody after leading police on pursuit in stolen vehicle, punching officer

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police arrested a suspect inside a stolen vehicle following a chase on the north side.

The vehicle, a 2013 Ford Escape, was initially stolen during a carjacking on October 12th near 29th and Forest Home. The victim, a 43-year-old woman, was inside the car when she was approached by three men who demanded her car at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in the victim’s car.

Police say around 8:10 p.m. on October 17th, MPD officers located the car driving southbound on N. 35th Street at W. Lloyd Street. The officers attempted to pull the car over but the driver sped off. Officers began a pursuit and the Ford Escape crashed a short time later in the 46th and Lisbon Avenue.

The driver, and lone occupant, of the car fled on foot.

An officer tried to place the 25-year-old Milwaukee man into custody at which time the suspect began to punch the officer. The officer suffered minor injuries and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

Heroin and cocaine were also found inside the vehicle.

The suspect is a convicted felon with a criminal history dating back to 2009. He now faces potential charges of Fleeing an Officer, Battery to a Law Enforcement Officer, Driving/Operating an Owner’s Vehicle Without Consent, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, and Probation Violation.
